It is possible to view religion as decayed spirituality. Religion is a human attempt to define and institutionalize our concepts of God and the transcendent. Ego needs to control the uncontrollable, to codify the unknown into freeze-dried doctrines, and to build walls to seperate the Truth from the Heresies. Openess, humility and inquisitiveness are marks of spirituality. But the ones who frighten me, are those who "know" and worse yet, they "know that they know."
